If you're a customer who purchased your own Eko device, go to the Eko Help Center.
To capture sounds and ECG, the CORE 500™ can be placed in various locations and used in various orientations on the torso. Each position will produce a unique body sound and ECG tracing.
Important
You can listen to body sounds over clothing, but ECG requires skin contact.
Capture sounds by placing the CORE 500™ anywhere on the body. For best audio, press the device with pressure against the patient to reduce movement.
You can use the integrated ECG to quickly evaluate the electrical activity of the patient’s heart. The device is not intended for diagnostic purposes. The device uses dry electrodes and isn’t recommended for determining the absolute amplitude of the ECG signal.
We recommend that the device display and the Eko App be primarily used for rhythm analysis. While it is not a diagnostic tool, the CORE 500™ can help you to detect the presence of conditions that need more investigation. This helps to better focus further workup and testing for the patient so that an accurate diagnosis can be reached.
While the CORE 500™ should not be used to calculate the absolute amplitude of the ECG, it can visualize the rate and rhythm of the heart similarly to a 12-lead ECG. The ECG waveform for channel 1 can be viewed on the device screen. The waveforms for all 3 channels can be viewed in the Eko App.
When the device is placed on the left upper sternal border (LUSB), and with the top electrodes horizontal (see Capturing ECG below), the 3 channels of the ECG correspond to modified leads I, II and III:
-
Modified lead I mimics limb lead I from arm to arm. This lead is at the top of the device and corresponds to the 1st lead shown on the Eko App.
-
Modified lead II mimics lead II from the shoulder to the leg and corresponds to the 2nd lead shown in the Eko App.
-
Modified lead III mimics lead III and corresponds to the 3rd lead shown in the Eko App.
Note
We don't recommend using the device display alone to determine the absolute amplitude of the ECG signal.
We recommend using the display primarily for making sure you have a quality ECG signal.
Use the Eko App to read and interpret the full 3-lead ECG.
Capture the ECG signal by placing the CORE 500™ directly on the skin. This is so that the electrodes are electrically coupled to the skin.
You can rotate the device to get different vectors and optimize your listening. However, one position that works well is the LUSB, next to the left sternal edge between the second and third ribs, with the top electrodes oriented horizontally. With this position, the channels 1, 2, and 3 displayed on the mobile app will correspond to modified Leads I, II, and III, respectively.
In the LUSB position, the audio filter icon should be at the top, facing up.
Here are various ways to hold the CORE 500™ so that you can see the screen when capturing sounds and ECG.
You can use a Y grip between the middle and pointer finger or between the middle and ring finger. This grasp helps you put pressure on the electrodes for a clean ECG signal.
